Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Minister of Economy and Finance, Carlos Fernández Valdovinos, stated that the 2025 Budget project presented to the National Congress has a clear emphasis on social sectors, allocating almost 95% of the additional resources generated through improved tax collections to areas such as health, education, security and social programs.
“With all the new resources, which are around 860 million dollars, we are aiming to make people feel the impact of public policies. It is a budget project that has a lot of emphasis on social issues, on reaching people,” the minister said on Monday.
“I hope that future governments will have the political will to allocate available resources to social issues,” he said, detailing the planned expansions in areas such as health, education, security and social protection programs for vulnerable sectors.
He said that this is an additional 305 million dollars for Education, including funding for the Zero Hunger in Schools program, which next year will reach more than 1,000,000 children.
The 325 million dollars for the purchase of medicines are also maintained, and the 2025 budget ensures the resources to put two large hospitals into operation, one in Coronel Oviedo and the other in Encarnación. In addition, 25 million dollars were specifically allocated for the National Cancer Institute, the minister indicated.
Resources are also guaranteed for the incorporation of 5,000 new police officers and the operation of all patrol cars, he said in terms of security.
On the social front, he explained that the food pension program for senior citizens is contemplated to increase by 42 million dollars, moving towards universalizing the benefit, as currently provided for by law. “We believe that in three years we will have universalized the program,” said Fernández Valdvinos.
He also indicated that the Ministry of Urban Development, Housing and Habitat will have 20 million more dollars for social housing.
Resources obtained from Itaipu, for social expenses and infrastructure
The minister also stressed that the additional 650 million euros obtained through negotiations with Brazil regarding the Itaipu tariff will be allocated mainly to social investments and infrastructure.
“A good part will go to infrastructure, to build the seven large hospitals, and to road works, at least 300 million dollars,” he said.
