The 2024 Paraguay University Games officially began

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The largest student festival – which brings together more than 300 teams from 40 public and private universities in the country – began at the Ueno Sports Center, the National Sports Secretariat Arena.

The opening ceremony was presided over by the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, who congratulated the young people and promised to change the history of sport in Paraguay from this first edition onwards.

“This is the starting point and we are going to join all our forces to make these games a success. This would not be possible without you, the young people. Our challenge is that next year we can continue to grow and that the JUPY become part of the academic training and the education of people,” the president emphasized.

For his part, the Minister of Sports, César Ramírez, was excited to be part of the university party and stressed, addressing the young people, that “You are not the future, you are the present of our Paraguay.”

He thanked the students for choosing sport “as a tool for interacting with their peers, as a cross-cutting element in their comprehensive professional training, as a healthy lifestyle option and, why not, as a possible life project aimed at high performance,” he said.

The Paraguayan University Games (JUPY) are part of the Sumar Plan, the comprehensive strategy for the prevention of drug abuse promoted by the Government. The celebration of the sporting event will allow for comprehensive collaboration between the actions of the Sumar Plan and university competitions.

“With this, we will carry out, in addition to sports, actions so that our youth are informed and join the work of eradicating drug addiction,” said Minister Ramírez.

After the opening ceremonies, the first matches of the municipal phase for the capital’s universities were played.
