In May 2023, the 85th World Federation of Sports Journalists (AIPS) General Assembly will be held in Seoul.
According to the Korea Sports Journalists Federation (Chairman Yang Jong-gu), AIPS held an executive committee meeting in Rome, Italy on the 3rd (Korean time) and selected Seoul as the venue for next year’s general assembly by unanimous vote of the executive members. As a result, Korea will hold the 4th AIPS General Assembly following 1987, 2011 (above Seoul) and 2017 (Pyeongchang).
Initially, next year’s AIPS General Assembly was scheduled to be held in Crete, Greece, but Greece declared its abandonment due to national circumstances. In August of this year, at the urgent request of AIPS, Korea jumped into the bid for the general assembly. In addition to the experience of hosting the previous three general meetings, Korea received high scores in excellent sports infrastructure and was eventually confirmed as the AIPS General Assembly site in 2023.
The AIPS General Assembly was created with the goal of strengthening cooperation among international sports journalists during the 1924 Paris Olympics. We carry out activities to strengthen harmony and bond among sports reporters, and to improve the reporting and reporting environment. It is expected that regarding 300 people, including sports reporters and sports organizations from 130 countries, will attend the general meeting next year.
