“The influenza is becoming very worrying; not only does it spread more and more, reaching unscathed towns to this day and entire families at the same time, but it loses its generally benign character […] and caused many victims”, reports an anonymous author in the May 4, 1893 edition of the Little Comtois.

Influenza, better known as the flu, had recently marked the spirits. A few years earlier, in 1889-1890 especially, an influenza pandemic called “Russian flu” would have killed nearly a million people on the planet. Recurrences were then noted.

For this specific case, the author of the article adds; “The mortality is considerable in certain localities; the number of sick is high and the deaths are well above the normal average. »

He concludes: “Let’s hope that this unfortunate situation will not be long in coming to an end. »
