The kick-off of the 16th edition of the cultural Moussem of Tantan, was given, Saturday at the Place of Peace and Tolerance of the city, with the participation of the United Arab Emirates as guest of honor.
Initiated by the “Almouggar” Foundation, under the sign “Moussem de Tan Tan, identity rooting and lever of sustainable development”, this event, which continues until July 12, contributes to paying tribute to the cultural and artistic heritage of the region. .
The opening ceremony of this 16th Moussem, chaired by the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid and the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Mrs. Laila Benali, was enhanced by the inauguration of themed tents from Morocco and the United Arab Emirates, as well as a craft village.
This first day was also punctuated by the organization of performances by Hassani and Emirati folklore troupes and traditional equestrian art (Tbourida), as well as a carnival with the participation of local and national traditional groups.
The program for this edition is marked by a series of cultural, artistic and socio-economic activities. The Moussem is an exceptional opportunity to celebrate the different cultural expressions and to preserve and promote the intangible heritage rooted in the traditions of the region and the southern provinces of the Kingdom.
The Place de la paix et de la Tolérance has been buzzing for several weeks to host the official opening show of the Moussem. This show, which attracts the local population as well as guests from all over the world, makes it possible to relive the intangible heritage of humanity and to celebrate the culture of the nomads and the authentic customs of the desert.
Throughout the city, spaces are set up to host music and art performances by several renowned Moroccan and Emirati troupes and singers. Camel races will take place at the city’s Camelodrome, in partnership with the United Arab Emirates.
Throughout the week, cultural, artistic, sporting and socio-economic activities will enhance the event. The Place will also be the place for presentations of intangible heritage expressions reflecting the richness of the culture and the diversity of the authentic heritage of the region.
As usual, the Moussem also offers a platform to support local development projects through associative activities led by the Almouggar Foundation. The aim is to support the local population and promote income-generating projects, especially for young people and women.
The spectacular carnival that will parade through the streets of the city will allow you to enjoy and discover the different customs and cultures, offering captivating artistic, sporting and heritage performances, which highlight the intangible cultural heritage of the Saharan regions.
Traditional game competitions passed down from generation to generation and contests in the culinary arts of the Sahara, considered to be an integral part of the authentic heritage, will be organized throughout this cultural event. They will offer participants the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to preserving the heritage of their region and its ancestral traditions.
As an authentic representative of the Hassani tributary of the Moroccan plural identity, this festival constitutes an annual point of convergence for the tribes of the south of the Kingdom and neighboring African countries, attached to their history and their civilizational and cultural heritage, elevated to the rank of world heritage par excellence.
