Have you ever? planned a city trip and imagine yourself sipping a cocktail on the most beautiful roof terrace or having brunch with the crispiest croissants? In reality but was there an overpriced drink in a pub and a long queue for a bland breakfast?
This is exactly what thousands of travelers experience every year, venting their disappointment on Tripadvisor and other platforms. Data experts from the British company King Casino Bonus took a closer look at tens of thousands of comments and created a ranking.
1. Bangkok: Backpacker district Khao San Road
Bangkok is vibrant, noisy, full of life, chaotic – and for some probably just too much. According to online comments, almost 17 percent of tourists are disappointed with the capital of Thailand.
The backpacking district of Khao San Road in particular is rated poorly. It’s been described as “crowded,” “extremely touristy,” and “only acceptable if you’re very young and looking to party.” The otherwise much praised Thai food from the local street markets also doesn’t do well there.
2. Antalya: Water Planet Aqua Park
Many families with children spend classic beach holidays in hotel complexes in and around Antalya. A trip to the city is a must. Only: 16.5 percent of travelers are not impressed by the Turkish city on the Mediterranean.
The ratings range from “trivial” to “without significant attractions”. Travelers were particularly disappointed by the water park called Water Planet Aqua Park just outside the city.
3. Singapur: Shoppingmeile Orchard Road
In the last few decades, Singapore has blossomed from a fishing village into a global metropolis. The island state is particularly popular with expats from all over Southeast Asia who work there in the booming technology and financial sectors.
And this is exactly where the main problem lies according to tourists: 15.8 percent describe the city as a place to work, but not to have fun. According to the reviews, there is no shortage of breathtaking attractions such as the world-famous Marina Sand Bay Hotel or the Gardens by the Bay – but there is a lack of soul and culture. The luxury shopping mile Orchard Road did particularly badly.
4. Munich: German Museum
The Oktoberfest in Munich is considered the largest folk festival in the world and attracts over five million visitors every year. According to the evaluation, 15.7 percent go home disappointed. After all, the Oktoberfest is only the sixth most disappointing attraction in the city.
Every tenth person stated that the expectations of the Oktoberfest did not match reality. Tourists from the Deutsches Museum were even more disappointed – did they visit before or after the Oktoberfest?
5. Rimini: Fiabilandia amusement park
In the 1980s and 1990s, Rimini was considered the place to be in summer: wide sandy beaches on the Adriatic coast full of colorful bikinis and swimming trunks attracted travelers to the popular Italian seaside resort.
Today, the golden days seem to be over, at least according to online reviews. 14.2 percent of travelers are critical. The city was “taken” and “does not meet expectations”. The amusement park Fiabilandia performs particularly badly.
Rank 6 to 10: These cities are also disappointing
In the second half of the ranking, another five cities in the top ten followed each other with almost the same number of points. From tourist traps and crowded beaches in Miami to outdated attractions in London or unfulfilled expectations in Paris – here travelers were anything but convinced.
