During 2021 Barcelona Activa, the municipal economic agency of the Barcelona City Council, has managed more than 1,800 job offers, of which 1,600 were for new employment contracts and 200 for internship contracts. According to the entity, an average of 5 vacancies a day have been managed, achieving that 800 people have joined a job throughout 2021.
38% of the vacancies managed are permanent positions, 55% for contracts of more than six months and 7% for a shorter period. 87% of the offers correspond to companies from the city of Barcelona itself and the rest from other metropolitan municipalities. It stands out that most of the jobs managed correspond to areas related to business services, telecommunications and ICT, commerce and tourism.

The profiles linked to the information technology (ICT) sector accounted for 17.6% of the offers managed. According to Barcelona Activa, people with a high component of digital skills are in demand in the field of telecommunications, and marketing, audiovisual and multimedia communication, and business management. Specifically, the most requested vacancies are for programmer, computer scientist, product manager and professional journalism and , among others.
Barcelona Activa has also organized in the last year marketplaces labor, with the participation of more than 130 companies and 2,500 candidates, of which 253 have been hired. “One out of every 10 people participating in the marketplaces ends up being hired thanks to an innovative format that highlights professional skills by offering more opportunities to people with a junior profile or who have made a job change. Thus, around 25% of the candidates inserted into the labor market through this process are under 25 years of age and more than 30% are people over 45 years of age ”, the agency explained this Sunday.
