On the way to glory, Evgeny Lebedev faced many difficulties.
Now the audience remembers the actor Yevgeny Lebedev as Mikhail Romashov from The Two Captains, Nechipor from The Wedding in Malinovka or the doctor from The Adventures of the Yellow Suitcase. But on the way to popularity, many difficulties awaited him. They were mainly connected with the origin of Eugene: his father was a clergyman, and this profession was not approved in the USSR following the revolution. The boy was bullied at school, so his parents had to move several times.
In 1927, Lebedev began to live in Samara with his grandparents, where he entered a school and mastered plumbing. Then he began to attend the drama club, and soon he was already performing on stage in the youth theater. But even there they found out regarding the family of Eugene, he was publicly condemned and expelled from the troupe.
He fled to Moscow, where, on the advice of his father, he told everyone that his relatives had died of starvation. In 1937, Lebedev’s parents were shot. He sent his younger sister Nina to an orphanage. Eugene wanted to protect her from the hatred he faced. He told the shelter staff that he had found the girl on the street. Later, Lebedev never looked for his sister, as he might not forgive himself for such an act.
