The 1-0 away win for the ÖFB national team in Baku not only means fixed participation in the EURO 2024 in Germany: it also means the automatic extension of team boss Ralf Rangnick’s contract.
When he took office in April of last year, the 65-year-old German signed a two-year contract, which was to be extended by another two years until the 2026 World Cup if he successfully qualified for the European Championship.
This has now been achieved, giving Rangnick the historic opportunity to lead Austria to its first participation in a World Cup since 1998. Then an almost 30-year dry spell would come to an end.
“We are all thrilled that Ralf Rangnick works with such meticulousness and enthusiasm for Austrian football,” says ÖFB President Klaus Mitterdorfer in an “ORF” interview.
