“Thank you”: When volunteers step into the spotlight

“Thank you”: When volunteers step into the spotlight

It is impossible to imagine local sports clubs without them: the thousands of volunteers who work every day for the country’s sporting talents and for those who want to become one – and they do so voluntarily and with great passion. Whether at training camps, at club events or in children’s training: none of this could take place without the volunteers’ commitment.

No club without volunteers

In order to appropriately recognize the approximately 60,000 volunteers who show their commitment in one of the 2,500 sports clubs in Upper Austria, the “Thank you” volunteer award is being presented again this year. The OÖNachrichten and Sportland Oberösterreich are bringing these people, who often work behind the scenes in sports clubs, into the spotlight. The campaign is also supported by Life Radio, TV1 and Tips. Every club is invited to nominate one person from the club without whose help club life would not be possible. Nominations can be submitted online until August 5th.

Serenity and care

Numerous volunteers have already been nominated by their club colleagues and are therefore in the running for “Volunteer of the Year 2024”. Among them is Walter Gupfinger from the Union Parachutist Club Linz. When the club was founded 57 years ago and the first jumps were attempted with a small plane, Gupfinger was already there and has been supporting the club since that day with commitment and knowledge in order to prepare future generations for the jumps in life.

Amelie Neumüller from ÖTB TV Schwanenstadt 1870 knows how important young talent is in sport. In her position as youth supervisor, she is responsible for youth work – and that requires coolness and composure, but also touching care. “Amelie is always there,” is the tenor in the club.

“Thank you” to volunteers

Until 5. August you can nominate sporting volunteers for the award. From 8. August Every vote counts: You can vote once a day – up to and including 31. AugustThe winners will be announced at the closing ceremony on 12. September honored, each district winner receives 1000 EuroThe state winner – chosen by the jury – will receive another 1000 euros.
