Is the severe outbreak in Shanghai, China related to the fact that the country can only use Sinopharm or Sinovac vaccines? It is unknown, but a study published in Singapore recently found that compared with those who received the Pfizer BNT vaccine, the proportion of people who received the two Chinese-made vaccines following being infected with the virus was five times that of those who received the BNT vaccine, a breakthrough infection. It is 6 times more than the Moderna vaccine! This is the result of a study published by the Singapore Infectious Diseases Expert Group on the 12th.

The study was led by Leong Yuxin, Executive Director of Singapore’s National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID), Vernon Lee, Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health (MOH), and others. The study period is regarding 7 weeks, from October 1, 2021 to November 21 of the same year A survey of nearly 3 million people over the age of 20 who have received 2 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The study found that compared with those who opted for the Pfizer vaccine, those who received the Sinovac vaccine were 2.37 times more likely to be infected with Covid-19, while those who received Sinopharm were regarding 1.62 times more likely to be infected. In addition, compared with Pfizer’s vaccinators, Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccinators were regarding 5 times and 1.58 times more likely to suffer from severe illness, respectively.

If the Moderna vaccine recipients are compared, the probability of being infected with Wuhan pneumonia and getting severe is only 0.42 times that of the Pfizer BNT recipients.

David Lye, one of the researchers, tweeted that Sinovac had five times the risk of severe Covid-19 compared to Pfizer, and “thank goodness, only 2% of people are vaccinated with Sinovac.”

According to the Singapore Ministry of Health, as of the 12th, more than 96% of the population eligible for vaccination has completed the injection, and 72% of them have received booster injections.

According to foreign reports, 74% of Singapore vaccinators were vaccinated with Pfizer’s BNT vaccine, 23% with Moderna, only 2% with Sinovac, and 1% with China National Medicines.
