ARLINGTON, Virginia–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Thales, world leader in offering electronic passport to more than 40 national programs worldwide, announces a new US passport eCover agreement with the US Government Publishing Office (GPO) for the next 10 years.
Since 2005, Thales has delivered more than 127 million eCovers and has cooperated with the GPO to provide secure technology and components for US passport covers. The GPO manufactures the US passport, including many of its components, for the State Department, which then customizes the booklet for US travelers, government officials and diplomats.
The incorporation of electronic security technology into highly durable passport cover materials provides another degree of security as electronically stored data is protected from alteration or tampering. Thales eCover maximizes and integrates all the attributes required in an electronic passport: greater security, durability and aesthetics.
