Thales has signed an agreement to acquire the Australian company Tesserent in order to strengthen its cybersecurity activity, the French technology and defense group announced on Tuesday. The Australian company of 500 employees, present on the island continent and in New Zealand, achieved a turnover of 110 million euros in 2022 with companies and administrations in the defense sector in particular, explains the group. in a press release.

For Thales, which generated 1.5 billion euros in revenue in 2022 in security, this acquisition will strengthen this activity in Australia where it is already one of the main defense manufacturers in the country. “Together we can meet the growing needs of our country in this area, in particular those expressed by the Australian government and defense sector”, justifies Kurt Hansen, CEO of Tesserent, quoted in the press release.

After three other companies in 2022

Tesserent, which will continue to operate under its own name, “will become Thales’ main cybersecurity offering in Australia and New Zealand”, according to the French group. With this new acquisition, Thales is continuing its policy of developing the cybersecurity sector, after the announcement last year of the purchase of three companies, the Spanish S21sec, the Luxembourgish Excellium and the Dutch OneWelcome.

The proposed acquisition, recommended by Tesserrent’s board of directors, is subject to approval by shareholders, the Australian Federal Court and the usual regulatory approvals, he said. The transaction should be finalized during the second semester.
