Bangkok: Pita Limjaronram, the leader of the Move Forward Party (MFP), who won the most votes in Thailand’s general election, has been denied the prime ministership by parliament.

He lost his social position because he violated the constitutional rule that MPs should not own shares in media houses. His father was suspended from the position of MP by the Constitutional Court. However, since 2007, the television channel in which Pita has a stake has not been on air.

The MFP-led eight-member coalition that won the general election in May won 312 seats in the House of Representatives. However, the father could rule only if he had the vote of the senate appointed by the army. In last week’s vote, only 13 of the 249 members of the Senate supported Pita. The suspension of the Constitutional Court followed. With this, the Parliament decided not to consider him for the post of Prime Minister.

During the election campaign, the MFP said that the law would be amended to punish those who insult the King of Thailand with up to 15 years in prison. was promised. Reforms including this are considered to be the reason for the move against MFP and Pita.
