“77 ammonite fossils”, sea creatures that lived 66 million years ago, probably in Africa, have been spotted enshrined in sidewalks in the heart of Bangkok, Preecha Saithong told AFP on Tuesday. of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment.
Housed here and there in alleys for some 400 meters and measuring from 2 to 12 centimeters, they were photographed by a passerby who posted her discovery on social networks, triggering the curiosity of the authorities.
One of the hypotheses is that the fossils were used as decoration by workers hired in 2020 to renovate the promenade, without the latter suspecting their authenticity and origin.
Ammonites, and their spiral-shaped shell, are among the most common fossils. They are sold worldwide and their price depends on their size.
