Strains still to be confirmed

The clade 1 variant causing the current epidemic in Africa kills 3.6% of cases and is particularly dangerous for children, according to the World Health Organization. The sequencing results that Pakistan has reported do not show that the strain is a variant currently circulating on the African continent.

Mpox is a viral disease that is transmitted from animals to humans and can also be spread through close physical contact. The disease causes fever, muscle pain and skin lesions. Formerly known as monkeypox, it is caused by the monkeypox virus, which was discovered in 1958 in monkeys raised for research in Denmark.
