At least 32 people died Thursday in a nursery in the northeast of the country. The assailant, who was armed with a knife and a gun, then killed his wife and their child, before committing suicide.

A shooting took place on Thursday at a nursery in Na Klang, Nong Bua Lamphu province, northern Thailand, a royal police spokesman said. The terrible toll so far is “at least 32 dead”, including 23 children, said police colonel Jakkapat Vijitraithaya. The attack began at 12:30 p.m. local time (8:30 a.m. in Switzerland), before the assailant fled by car and hit several pedestrians, according to Jakkapat Vijitraithaya, police colonel.

The police have launched a wanted poster to find the main suspect, a 34-year-old former police officer. He was on the run, in possession of a rifle, a pistol and a knife. The police announced shortly following that the assailant then killed his wife and their child, and that he committed suicide in the process.

A shooting by an army officer, who had argued with a superior, had occurred in February 2020 in Thailand in a shopping center in Nakhon Ratchasima, killing 29 people.
