Thailand’s new Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has announced that he will donate every month of his salary to charitable foundations during his term in office. The head of government (61) believes “in the power of giving” and will set a good example, the newspaper “Bangkok Post” quoted government spokesman Chai Wacharonke as saying on Thursday. Among other things, the money will benefit child protection organizations.
The former real estate magnate Srettha, who comes from a wealthy family, reportedly earns a total of 125,600 Thai baht (around 3,200 euros) per month as head of government, made up of his salary and allowances. A special working group should select the foundations and organizations that particularly urgently need help.
The new government has promised to reduce social inequalities in the kingdom and promote children’s education. Srettha was sworn in as Prime Minister at the beginning of September after months of political turmoil.
