[Bangkok = Taiki Fujikawa]Eight political parties, including the progressive progressive party, which became the first party in the Thai House of Representatives general election, and the Thai Contribution Party, the second party in the former Prime Minister Thaksin faction, held a press conference at a hotel in Bangkok on the 18th. He announced that he had agreed in principle to form a coalition government. The eight parties have a total of 313 seats.

500 members of the House of Representatives and 250 senators appointed under the military government vote for the prime minister. Since the establishment of a government requires a majority of 376 votes in both houses of Congress, the key will be the behavior of senators, most of whom are pro-military.

The 8 parties confirmed their support for Pita, leader of the Progressive Party, as prime minister. He also decided to set up a transition team to get to work as soon as the administration takes office. They plan to sign a memorandum of understanding on the cooperation method on the 22nd.

Mr. Pita and Pheui Party leader Chongnan held coalition talks behind closed doors the night before at a restaurant in Bangkok. At a press conference on the 18th, Mr. Pita emphasized, “We have prepared for various scenarios and have a clear roadmap for forming a government. We are not worried regarding the nomination of prime minister.”

“We need to discuss to find a solution to a sensitive issue,” said Chongnan, a member of the Yoogi Party, who has a gap with the Forward Party, which has shown willingness to revise the lese-majeste law, which punishes insults to the royal family. .

At this point, the eight parties in coalition talks and the former ruling Democratic Party, which has 25 seats, might vote for Mr. Pita’s prime ministerial nomination. The DPJ lost a lot of seats in the recent general election.

Many senators are expected to follow the military’s wishes, but so far 16 have indicated they support Pita. However, it did not reach a majority in both the Senate and the Senate.

According to local media, less than 60% of the 250 senators are in favor of the current prime minister and deputy prime minister. There are also groups of local celebrities, legal experts, civil servants and independents, which Mr. Pita plans to appeal to support.
