TF1’s Decision to Not Broadcast NRJ Music Awards Live: Increased Security Measures and Implications for Public Voting

According to Le Parisian, TF1 has decided not to broadcast the “NRJ Music Awards” live. The ceremony will be captured live on November 10 during the day, at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, and will be broadcast the same evening on the channel. There will therefore be no red carpet with the arrival of the celebrities.

“The strengthening of the Vigipirate plan, the repeated bomb threats at the Château de Versailles and the cancellation of the MTV Europe Music Awards, scheduled for this weekend in Villepinte (Seine-Saint-Denis), require us to strengthen security” , declared a source to the French media.

Since 2016, television channels have postponed their live broadcasts by a few minutes as a precaution. But a bomb threat would require emptying the room, sending in bomb squads and then reseating the audience. It would take several hours and the live broadcast would have to be cut, which would send a huge message of anxiety to viewers.

Other TF1 programs are thus threatened, such as “Star Academy”, whose new season will begin on November 4, or “Miss France 2024” scheduled for December 16.

Public vote

Not broadcasting programs live raises the question of public voting. For all three shows, the public is asked to vote, whether to eliminate a candidate, choose the song of the year or their favorite Miss. In the case of the NRJ Music Awards, the production would consider giving Nikos Aliagas all the options to broadcast only the one which corresponded to the public votes sent at the end of the evening. Same thing for the “Star Academy”. Things look more difficult for Miss France, since the vote takes place in several stages.
