Tezos, blockchain pioneer in Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism and on-chain governance, has activated the upgrade of its 14th core protocol: Nairobi. With several updates and improvements to the Tezos protocol, the Nairobi upgrade will make it faster and easier to run applications on the Tezos blockchain.
Among these updates are improvements made to Smart Rollups, the industry’s leading scaling solution, owned by Tezos. It is now possible to upgrade Smart Rollups in sync with the protocol, using Tezos’ pioneering on-chain governance. Smart Rollups give developers a more reliable, secure and decentralized scaling solution compared to any other blockchain solution. Additionally, the upgrade resulted in an eightfold increase in transactions per second (TPS) while reducing the cost per transaction.
“The Nairobi upgrade once once more demonstrates the strength of the Tezos community, and further establishes Tezos’ leadership in scalability,” said Arthur Breitman, co-founder of Tezos. “Serious applications require serious technology, and Tezos’ resiliency, adaptability and solidity stand out once morest lax industry standards.”
8x TPS increase with improved transaction model
Enabling even more transactions with adjusted costs for different cryptographic curves
The Nairobi upgrade will allow up to eight times more operations to be performed per second, while reducing the cost per transaction for most operations. In contrast to the previous model with a flat fee and a single standard for transaction costs for signature verification, the new model is fairer to users, making authentication costs better fit the computational resources required.
Reach consensus faster
Pre-certification fast propagation
The Nairobi upgrade speeds up the entire chain by tweaking the consensus mechanism, enabling reliable operations at lower latencies. The upgrade also contributes to lower hardware requirements to participate in the consensus, which benefits decentralization while simultaneously increasing consensus rewards for Tezos “bakers”.
Upgrade aos Smart Rollups
Seamless Tier 2 experience
Nairobi allows Smart Rollups to progress in sync with Tezos Layer 1 protocol. This allows Rollups to be staged and instantly take advantage of features provided by future protocol upgrades. Smart Rollups in Tezos are backed up in Tier 1 rather than being deployed as smart contracts, making them more efficient, reliable and decentralized than other Tier 2 solutions like Arbitrum or Optimism.
Community driven evolution
As with every Tezos upgrade, Nairobi has been validated and approved by the community through the on-chain governance process of the Tezos blockchain. The Nairobi enablement marks the culmination of the months-long collaboration between the developer teams and the wider Tezos community.
developers from Nomadic Labs,Marigold, TriliTech, Oxhead Alpha, tarides, DaiLambda e To the operator contributed to this update, ushering in a new era of scalability and opening the door to exciting new applications on the Tezos blockchain.
