They have already survived their baptism of fire: Yesterday, Tuesday, Teya & Salena were on the big song contest stage in Liverpool for the first time and performed their song “Who The Hell Is Edgar?” performs. The local ESC duo, which will compete in the second semi-final next week (May 11), made their contribution three times. “It was really nice to finally be on stage today,” Salena was quoted as saying by ORF in a broadcast.
In their performance, the singers not only use the colors red, white and black, but also a choreography that is intended to encourage participation. Teya & Salena are supported by four dancers on stage, while the song’s namesake – writer Edgar Allan Poe – appears digitally on the LED walls. The staging should be understood as a criticism of the music business, which also occurs in the song. We want to draw attention to that.”
On Friday, Teya & Salena will have their second rehearsal in the Liverpool Arena, on which Julio Himede designed the stage. While the visual aspects and similarities between the host country Great Britain and last year’s winner Ukraine are discussed, on the technical side there are 450 square meters of stage space with 220 square meters of independently movable video screens and more than 700 video tiles integrated into the floor. In total, more than 1,500 meters of LED lights were installed.
After the official opening of the 67th Eurovision Song Contest on Sunday (May 7th), the two semi-finals (9th and 11th May) are coming up next week before the grand finale takes place on 13th May. A total of 37 countries are taking part in the competition this year, with the five major EBU donor countries Germany, France, Spain, Great Britain and Italy, as well as last year’s winner Ukraine, being firmly set for the final round.
