(CNN) About 230 people have been arrested for drunkenness and disorderly conduct in public at a Jeep enthusiast event in Texas.

The event is held annually in Crystal Beach, California, and this year it was held from the 18th to the 21st. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said it had been preparing for three months, and according to a press conference on the 21st, more than 120 police officers were deployed at the venue.

Most of those arrested were charged with misdemeanor offenses, with more than 200 arrests on Friday alone, according to CNN affiliate KTRK.

Mostly by word of mouth, this informal event draws tens of thousands of people in jeeps and other vehicles to the beach, drinking and partying.

But large numbers of people are arrested or hospitalized each year.

Last year, a policeman who was directing traffic was hit by a car and was seriously injured, breaking both legs and an arm.

Initially, the event started as a gathering of Jeep enthusiasts only, but in recent years, participation by non-Jeep enthusiasts has increased. As a result, Jeep clubs and enthusiasts have left Crystal Beach to congregate elsewhere in the state. Even so, events continue to attract large crowds.

Emergency services responded to regarding 65 calls in Crystal Beach this year related to the event, according to the sheriff’s office. Since the event began on the 18th, regarding 40 people with acute and mild cases have been taken to the hospital.
