Rockville, MarylandFebruary 16, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Tetracore, Inc. (Tetracore®) is pleased to announce a partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) to provide Large supply of PCR kits. These kits were purchased for use in the National Animal Vaccines and Veterinary Countermeasures Library to ensure that the United States is prepared for a possible outbreak of severe exotic animal disease (FAD). As the only PCR kits authorized by the USDA for use with these diseases, Tetracore’s VetAlert African Swine Fever and Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease Diagnostic Tests are critical to minimizing the potentially devastating impact of exotic animal disease outbreaks.
The emergence of African swine fever in the Dominican Republic represents an imminent threat to the welfare of US food production. Outbreaks of hand, foot and mouth disease and African swine fever can have devastating economic consequences for the livestock industry. This threat requires readily available, accurate and validated diagnostics. The immediate surge of samples flooding animal health testing laboratories will quickly exhaust available countermeasures. To address the need for laboratory surge capacity in the event of an outbreak, the USDA has asked Tetracore to stockpile its USDA-authorized HFMD and ASF test kits.
The VetAlert ASF and HFMD Diagnostic Tests have been updated with modern viral sequences to ensure the tests remain fit for purpose. These assays have been validated in studies in multiple reference laboratories. The VetAlert™ African Swine Fever and Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease Diagnostic Assays were developed and commercially marketed by Tetracore scientists and are sold exclusively by Tetracore.
