Saniat R’mel International Airport in Tetouan approached, on Thursday, for the first time in its history, the bar of 100,000 annual travelers, since the resumption of international air traffic at the airport on February 12.
To this end, the National Airports Office (ONDA) organized a reception in honor of the 100,000th passenger. This is Oucharki Ibtisam, a Moroccan residing in Spain, who arrived in Tetouan from Malaga Costa del Sol airport, via flight number FR 4539.
Saniat R’mel airport in Tetouan welcomed 88,129 passengers at the end of last July, compared to 23,336 during the same period of 2019, a recovery rate of 378%, according to ONDA.
Four airlines serve Tetouan, through 18 weekly flights to European destinations, namely Malaga with five return flights, Madrid (three flights), Seville (two flights), Brussels (two flights), Charleroi (two flights), Marseille (two flights), and Alicante (two flights), in addition to two domestic airlines connecting Tetouan to Casablanca and Al Hoceima.
On this occasion, the director of Saniat R’mel airport in Tetouan, Hassan Limouni, underlined that the airport is today celebrating an unprecedented event in its history, following having exceeded the bar of 100,000 annual passengers, less seven months, noting that this number is set to increase.
In a statement to MAP, Limouni noted that Tetouan airport has taken a new turn in terms of the number of passengers, as well as in terms of achievements and upgrades, thanks to the federation of the efforts of all partners.
The official assured that this performance is due to the dynamics that the airport has experienced over the past ten years, during which air traffic has multiplied by regarding 8, going from regarding 7,400 passengers in 2011 to more of 61,200 passengers in 2021, which enabled the airport to cross the 100,000 passenger mark this year, with an average annual growth rate of 24%.
For her part, Oucharki expressed her joy at being the 100,000th passenger having passed through Saniat R’mel airport during this year, noting that she has become accustomed to traveling to Morocco via this airport, given the quality of its services and the proximity between its place of residence abroad and its hometown.
