Testachats detected around fifty false promotions on the occasion of Black Friday, i.e. reductions applied to a crossed out price which was not the lowest price in the 30 days preceding the discount, indicates the consumer defense organization Saturday in a press release.
On November 24, Black Friday, Testachats analyzed a sample of false promotions for which the reduction percentages announced varied between 24 and 44%, with an average of 36%. “But in reality, according to the cases analyzed, the reduction was only 8% on average with a maximum of 22%. In this sample, the promotions are therefore inflated by 29% on average,” underlines the organization .
Some stores even went so far as to sell their products more expensively by claiming they were on promotion, she is surprised.
The conditions surrounding price reductions, in particular the comparison with the previous 30 days, are a legal reality. Testachats forwarded its findings to the Economic Inspectorate so that it can sanction the offenders. Companies risk a fine of up to 4% of their turnover, according to Testachats.
