Test series against Bangladesh, Naseem Shah returns after 13 months

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday announced the 17-member squad for the Test series against Bangladesh, with fast bowler Naseem Shah making a comeback after 13 months.

The first match of the two-match series will be played in Rawalpindi from August 21, followed by the second Test in Karachi from August 30.

Pakistan team will be led by Shan Masood while left-handed middle-order batsman Saud Shakeel is the vice-captain.

To Saud Shaheen Shah Afridi has been made the vice-captain in place of, who was performing this responsibility during the tour of Australia.

According to the PCB, this decision has been taken in view of managing the workload of Shaheen Afridi in a very busy season.

There are three new players in the squad. Kamran Ghulam, Muhammad Ali, and Muhammad Harira have earned a spot in the squad for their impressive domestic performances.

The squad includes Shaan Masood (Captain), Saud Shakeel (Vice-Captain), Amir Jamal (subject to fitness), Abdullah Shafiq, Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Kamran Ghulam, Khurram Shahzad, Mir Hamza, Muhammad Ali, Muhammad Hurira, Muhammad Rizwan ( Wicketkeeper), Naseem Shah, Saeem Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Sarfraz Ahmed (Wicketkeeper) and Shaheen Shah Afridi are included.

Imam-ul-Haq, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali (injured), Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Wasim Jr. (injured), Nauman Ali and Sajid Khan, who were part of the Pakistan squad against Australia, failed to retain their place in the team.

PCB has also announced the Pakistan Shaheens squad for the first four-day match against Bangladesh ‘A’.

Saud Shakeel will lead the team which includes eight potential Test squad players.

Pakistan Shaheens include Saud Shakeel (captain), Kamran Ghulam, Mehran Mumtaz, Mir Hamza, Muhammad Ali, Muhammad Ramiz Jr., Muhammad Harira, Naseem Shah, Saad Baig (wicketkeeper), Saad Khan, Saeem Ayub, Samin Gul, Sarfraz Ahmed ( Wicket.keeper) and Umar Amin included.

Under the guidance of head coach Jason Gillespie and assistant coach Azhar Mehmood, the Test squad’s training camp will begin from August 11 in Rawalpindi. Bangladesh cricket team is expected to arrive in Islamabad on August 17.

The Pakistan team has to play nine Tests, 14 T20Is and at least 17 One Day Internationals from August 21, 2024 to April 5, 2025.
