Test reveals little impact of ProMotion screen on iPhone battery

According to tests carried out by Macworlddisable the feature ProMotion (up to 120Hz refresh rates) on iPhones results in minimal gains in battery life. The site investigated the impact of limiting the refresh rate on an iPhone 15 Pro and noted an increase of mere 5%.

According to the analysis, although the difference is noticeable, it does not compensate for the loss of a smoother experience offered by the resource. Tasks such as scrolling through the Instagram feed, for example, showed insignificant variations in battery life.

The real disparity, however, emerged when gaming — especially in titles that support higher refresh rates, such as Call of Duty: Mobile e PUBG Mobile. Tests with the limited frame rate showed reduced battery consumption, sometimes doubling battery life.

The council of Macworld It is precisely not activating the 60Hz limit for most applications, given that the incremental gains in battery do not compensate for the compromise in screen performance. Instead, adjusting frame rate settings within the game itself offers a more impactful solution.
