This is the story of Prometheus! (THE PLANET, NOT THE MYTH!)
In this narrative game, you play several characters. Octavio, a somewhat loser thief entrepreneur, Anu, sister of the first, a scientist fired from the Atlas company and finally Fran, a yogurt ice cream seller, with a slightly problematic penchant for violence. It is flanked by these characters that you will advance in a story that is still as crazy as ever. Each beginning of the chapter is introduced by a summary narrated by Marcus, which allows us to reconnect with each game of the franchise. During this unequal fight once morest the Tédiore (New Omnipotent Society), humor and the relationships between the characters will also be important, but we will come back to this.
Well-oiled mechanics.
If the majority of Borderlands games are made to shoot thousands of bullets at all costs, but here, the shootings are sporadic, Anu being opposed to any form of violence. Narrative choices to make in a limited time and contextual actions to succeed. As we have seen above, the relationships between each playable character and the entire trio are important because it makes it easier to have important actions in the game. Everything is focused on the dialogues and this is the strong point of the game, undeniably. Now, it remains to be seen whether you will be able to keep your group of heroes together!
Humor, always humor.
If the Borderlands franchise has had its ups (Borderlands 2) and stockings (Borderlands 3), here the humorous processes are finely used. The references are very well found, whether to talk regarding a certain social network that discreetly watches Fran in her ice cream shop, or even better, to integrate the ArchiiBôs into the game. In fact, during your adventure, you can find figurines representing characters from the franchise and use them to fight in an arena a bit like Beyblades. It’s easy to like this New Tales from the Borderlands because it doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that’s always a positive point when you want to have a good time with a controller in hand.
Graphically (and aurally) stunning.
New Tales from the Borderlands runs with beautifully crafted cell-shading. One might have feared that the non-renewal of the preceded graphic might border on repetition but it is quite the opposite. With the richness of the sets and the expressions of the characters, everything fits perfectly. If we add to that the music that is always on point, we get an atmosphere that grabs you right away and never lets go! We wouldn’t be surprised if you wanted to go through the game in one go, even if the best thing would be to enjoy it a little longer.
