Five years following the release of their fourth album Without are the celebrated progressive metal pioneers of TesseracT back with her successor War Of Being.

Parallel to the release of the single, an immersive video game with the same title was released on August 11th, in which players can immerse themselves in the world of the album and not only hear the work, but also experience it. Fans experience a living, breathing concept that brings them the world of TesseracT brings closer than ever before.

The band tells an abstract and dystopian story in a futuristic world. “The Dream” crash-landed, “Ex” and “El” awaken and find themselves in “Strangeland”. There they face an enemy known only as “Fear”. The two are separated and so begins the journey of War Of Being.

Singer Daniel Tompkins describes the title track as follows: “War Of Being is a battle for acceptance, a battle of existence and a resistance once morest the ego. It’s a battle for control as we cut through the white noise of reality. It’s regarding the need to know and identify ourselves, to accept and understand what we stand for and who we are.” Further describes Tompkins the need to identify and at the same time learn to accept and understand what we stand for and who we are. “There is an urgent need to “tear away the mask” and reveal one’s true self”said the frontman.

TesseracT can no longer only be assigned to the Djent subgenre. With War Of Being The five-piece band creates something new and combines their previous influences. The album will be available in various formats, including the deluxe version The Strangelandlimited to 1500 copies worldwide.

A mix of previous works

The album starts with the explosive Natural Disaster that slowly builds up in the intro until Daniel Tompkins opens the song in the usual scream style. After just a few seconds you can hear familiar melodies from previous works like One or Polaris. Explosive, dynamic and fresh at the same time – the track is a mixture of emotional melodies and polyrhythmic elements. In the last third takes Natural Disaster a dramatic twist and works seamlessly Echoes above.

In contrast to the opener, the second track begins more quietly and focuses on melodic passages with the powerful vocals at the center. Here too he alternates between raw screams and soulful vocals that give the song an emotional depth.

Futuristic sounds à la TesseracT

The second single release The Grey starts with an intro in the band’s style and works with rhythmic drum interludes and skillfully placed accents. The song quickly catches the ear with its captivating sounds and sends the listener on a musical journey. HERE you can listen to and watch the visualizer.

With the title track War Of Being This is followed by what is probably the most varied and longest track on the album at around eleven minutes. After the guitar intro and the vocal hooks, there is a passage of groovy riffs, bass slaps, double and triple bass interludes that hook me Of Matter – Proxy from the second album Altered State remind.

Here too, the prog rockers shine with their technical skills. In addition to quiet moments, trumps War Of Being with in-depth, dynamic passages and ends in a climax overwhelmed by emotions. HERE you can listen to the animated music video.

Conclusion
With War Of Being hat TesseracT creating a multi-layered and uncompromising work with which the band has developed further in every respect. Definitely a worthy successor for me 9 / 10 reached.
