For the first time, an electric car, Tesla’s Model Y, was the best-selling car in the world, according to data compiled by the firm. Jato Dynamics in the first quarter of 2023.

Tesla’s flagship vehicle, owned by Elon Musk, sold more than 267,000 units for the first three months of 2023, up 69% from the same period in 2022.

The Tesla Model Y thus dethrones the popular Toyota Corolla, which sold 256,400 units in the first quarter of 2023.
The Toyota Hilux pickup truck (214,000 units), Toyota RAV (211,000 units) and Toyota Camry (166,200 units) complete the top 5.
According to Jato Dynamics, this meteoric rise in sales for this electric SUV from Tesla is partly linked to the lower selling price of the Model Y in addition to the company’s expansion across the globe.
Recall that Tesla has factories in the United States, China and Germany that mass-produce the Model Y.
In 2022, some 747,000 units of the Tesla Model Y were sold, according to the same firm cited above.
