WASHINGTON (EFE).— Tesla’s global sales in the second quarter of the year fell 4.8% to 443,956 vehicles, a figure higher than analysts’ expectations and which yesterday generated a rise of up to almost 9% in the electric car manufacturer’s shares.
In the second quarter of 2023, Tesla delivered 466,140 vehicles. Analysts had forecast deliveries from April to June to be 439,000 units.
The automaker reported that 422,405 of the vehicles delivered in the second quarter of 2024 were Model 3 and Model Y. The remainder, 21,551, were Model S, Model X and Cybertruck.
The company produced a total of 410,831 vehicles from April to June: 386,576 Model 3 and Model Y and 24,255 of the other models.
In the first quarter of 2024, the company’s sales fell 8.5% to 386,810 vehicles. Following the figures for the first three months of the year, Tesla offered discounts and incentives to boost its sales.
For its part, General Motors (GM) sales in the United States fell 0.4% in the first half of 2024 while Toyota’s increased 14.3%, according to figures released yesterday by the two manufacturers.
GM sold a total of 1,290,319 vehicles from January to June. Of the group’s four brands, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC, only the former finished the semester on a positive note.
Sales of Buick, a premium brand, rose 11.1 percent to 89,830 vehicles. Luxury brand Cadillac lost 1.7 percent to 73,906 vehicles; Chevrolet, the consumer brand, fell 1.2 percent to 841,874 sales; and GMC, a pickup truck and SUV specialist, fell 0.9 percent to 283,963 units.
Toyota Group sales, which include the Toyota and Lexus brands, rose 14.3% to 1,186,647 vehicles in the first half of the year.
Toyota sales rose 14.7 percent to 1,019,436 units while sales at Lexus, which makes premium vehicles, rose 11.9 percent to 167,211 vehicles.
Another Japanese manufacturer, the Honda Group, also increased its sales so far this year. The group’s two brands, Honda and Acura, delivered 577,539 vehicles in the first half of the year, an increase of 11.1%.
Similarly, the Nissan group gained 1.9% with the sale of 489,456 cars.
Hyundai increased its first-half sales by 1.2% to 399,523 vehicles, while Kia lost 2% to 386,460 deliveries.
