Tesla reveals an unpleasant surprise due to the closure of its factory in China

Deliveries fell Tesla electric cars In the second quarter of this year, compared to the previous period, following the company suffered from the closure of its factory in China for several weeks, according to what the company announced yesterday, Saturday.

The company of the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, delivered 254,695 cars between April and June, AFP reported.

The number represents an increase of more than 27% compared to the same period last year, but 18% less than the first quarter, and the first decline of its kind in more than two years.

The decline is a disappointment for Tesla, which has always said it is recording strong growth and promoting the opening of two new plants this year in Germany and Texas.

The drop in the number of vehicles delivered was larger than analysts’ expectations of 264,000 vehicles in the second quarter, according to FactSet, a software and financial data company.

And Tesla had warned in April of the supply chain crisis affecting the auto manufacturing sector in general, and expected that it would continue to impede its production operations until the end of the year.

However, Tesla delivered a record number of cars in the first quarter of 2022.

But in the second quarter, the company suffered a setback with the closure of its factory in Shanghai for several weeks due to the strict closure measures in China, due to the high number of “Covid-19” infections.

The company said in its announcement on Saturday that it produced 258,000 cars in the second quarter of the year, “despite the continuing challenges caused by supply chains and the plant closure beyond our control.”

And she added, that the month of June was the highest in terms of production in the history of “Tesla”.

On the other hand, General Motors and Toyota announced a decline in their sales for the second quarter in the United States by 15 and 23%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2021.
