The Tesla Optimus are progressing. On the occasion of Cyber Roundup 2023, Elon Musk released a video showing Tesla’s latest advances in robotics.

Yesterday, Tuesday May 16, was held the 2023 edition of Cyber Roundup, Tesla’s annual conference. The opportunity for Elon Musk to unveil the next vehicles to come, but also to take stock of the Tesla Bot, called Optimus. As a reminder, the company has been working on this robot since 2021, in order to ” remove dangerous, repetitive and boring tasks ».

Let’s be clear, Tesla engineers have been busy. In the video presentation a little over a minute, we can see the robot walking on two legs. Although his movements still lack fluidity, the progress is real. At the same time, Optimus is now able to control his power. This allows him, among other things, to avoid breaking fragile objects.

Note that this Tesla Bot is also able to memorize an area that it explores for the first time. A very useful ability for a robot to perform repetitive tasks in a given environment. Finally, it should be noted that Optimus has a semblance of artificial intelligence.

Concretely, the robot is equipped with Full Self-Driving (FSD), the same technology as that intended for the firm’s cars. Of course, the Tesla Bot is still very far from being operational. Although it is capable of performing certain manipulations, it still lacks finesse for certain tricky maneuvers. Tesla workers can therefore take a breather, at least for now.
