Tesla offers its version of the Apple AirPower. The Wireless Charging Platform is offered at $300 by the automaker.
Apple announced in 2018 the upcoming marketing of its AirPower, a wireless charging pad for up to three Apple brand devices. Unfortunately, following a year of postponement, the Cupertino company had to publicly acknowledge that the AirPower would never see the light of day. And despite multiple reports claiming the project was still alive internally, the charging mat never made it to market. But today, a similar product is coming via a rather unlikely competitor: Tesla.
Tesla propose sa version de l’Apple AirPower
On its website, Tesla has started selling a device called the Wireless Charging Platform – not quite as sexy as the AirPower, is not it ? -. It is, as you have probably already guessed, a platform for wirelessly charging up to three devices with 15W of power simultaneously.
With a design which, according to the electric vehicle manufacturer, is directly inspired by its Cybertruckthe Wireless Charging Platform consists of an aluminum chassis, a surface in alcantara on which to place your devices and a detachable magnetic foot, which allows the device to be placed flat or at an angle.

More importantly, the Wireless Charging Platform features FreePower technology that allows you to place your gadgets – which must be Qi compatible – anywhere on the dedicated surface, without precise alignment. Owners of Tesla cars are already hoping that this technology will appear in the brand’s vehicles. Having to align your smartphone perfectly with the Model 3’s wireless charger is sometimes very frustrating.
Tesla has also, it seems, decided to “copy” Apple on another aspect: that of the price of this Wireless Charging Platform. The product is sold for $300 ! You can pre-order it now on the Tesla site, but the first deliveries are not expected before February 2023.
