Tesla is recalling more than 1.1 million vehicles in China due to braking problems, the country’s top regulator said in a statement on Friday.

The recall includes imported Tesla Model S, Model X, Model 3, and domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y vehicles with a production date between January 12, 2019 and April 24, 2023.

China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) said the recalled vehicles have the problem of not allowing the driver to choose the energy recovery braking system, while the vehicles do not provide enough reminders for the driver to press the accelerator pedal for a long time.

SAMR added that such factors could increase the likelihood that the driver mistakenly depresses the accelerator pedal for a long time, increasing the risk of a collision and posing a safety hazard.

The US electric car maker will contact relevant car owners to arrange the recall and repairs, according to the statement.

In March, the automaker recalled more than 2,600 imported Model S cars in China because their hoods opened unexpectedly while driving, putting the safety of those on board at risk.

Tesla’s Shanghai factory is the company’s largest export hub outside of North America, while China is a major sales market for the company.
