Tesla launches production of Semi electric trucks

The head and founder of Tesla, Elon Musk, has finally announced the start of production of Tesla trucks – judging by the publication of the billionaire on Twitter, the production of cars has already begun, and from December 1, deliveries of new mainline tractors for PepsiCo will start. The latter made a pre-order for 100 cars back in 2017, a month following they were announced.

In August this year, Musk already statedthat a version of the truck with a range of 800 km will start shipping before the end of this year and looks set to keep its promise. Prior to this, the head of the company claimed that deliveries of Semi electric trucks would begin no earlier than 2023, and in the second half of August, pre-orders for new items were stopped. At the same time, truck specifications have also been updated.

Tesla promises that Semi will be able to accelerate to 100 km / h in 20 seconds even when fully loaded and maintain high speed even on steep climbs. In addition, batteries with a range of 500 and 800 km can be charged to 70% in 30 minutes. According to Musk’s tweet, now we are talking regarding the 800 km version, which brings “super driving pleasure”.

Until 2022, there was not too much information regarding Semi trucks. Finally, in May of this year, Tesla began “booking” models with a deposit of $20,000, and in August information appeared regarding the start of deliveries of the 800 km version this year. Same month pre-orders stopped taking.

It is worth noting that the company does not strictly observe its own “deadlines” – the release of the Cybertruck was postponed several times, and now it is promised to start sales in 2023. The same applies to other models. Moreover, Tesla’s full autopilot, which Elon Musk has been promising to implement soon for years, also exists only in a “stripped down” beta version. Tesla also promised that Semi trucks will receive at least partial autopilot, although there is no information regarding this on the truck’s page.

Earlier it was reported that the Semi will cost $180 thousand, but now there is no information on the company’s website yet – it is possible that inflation has made its own adjustments to the price. Additionally, Tesla reports that over 3 years of operation, the truck will save up to $200,000.
