Tesla, the electric automobile giant, is diversifying its activities by launching a new pack of beers called “CyberBeer” on the American market. This pack includes two personalized tankards that recall the angular design of the brand’s future Cybertruck pickup. These beers, already out of stock despite their high price, mark a new stage in Tesla’s diversification strategy, which seeks to strengthen its brand image beyond the automotive sector.

Tesla returns to the alcoholic beverage market with a new beer

The Tesla company, known for its innovative electric cars, is relaunching on the American alcoholic beverage market with a new pack including a pair of beers called CyberBeer (yes, Elon Musk missed the pun “Cybe(e)r” ) and a pair of personalized mugs bearing the sweet name CyberStein.

Why are we talking regarding a return to the alcoholic beverage market rather than an arrival? Quite simply because it is a further expansion of the brand in the field of alcoholic beverages, following the launch of the GigaBier pilsner in Europe earlier this year. We also remember Tesla tequila.

CyberBeer, brewed and bottled in California by Buzzrock Brewing Co., has an alcohol content of 7%. In fact, it is simply Helles type lager with aromas of European hops Saaz and Hallertau Mittlefruh.

The bottles are dressed in a glossy black sleeve with a CyberBeer watermark that Tesla says looks “prettier when cooled.” The black ceramic beer mugs, called CyberSteins, were glazed and fired to reflect the shape of the future Cybertruck pickup. They are also covered with a glossy interior and the Tesla logo.

This is what the contents of this Cyber Beer pack look like

This is not the first time that Elon Musk has released Tesla derivative products

This initiative marks a new stage in the diversification of Tesla’s activities, which is clearly no longer limited to the production of electric cars. Since the Tesla brand and its emblematic boss Elon Musk have a good number of fans, the car manufacturer has already launched several derivative products ranging from whistles in the shape of Cybertruck to the McFlurry spoon (yes, it was available in Chinese McDonald’s ) through bottles of alcohol at incredible prices.

Because yes, the pack containing 2 CyberBeer and 2 CyberStein costs 150 dollars (around €143 with the current conversion rate). Tesla justifies this price by talking regarding the quality of the bottles and mugs, but we can’t help but think regarding the fact that a Helles beer costs around ten dollars at most in an American supermarket.

That being said, note that despite its particular design and its high price, the CyberBeer is very successful. The product has just been announced and is already out of stock on the Tesla website. Better: fans of the brand cry genius.

Note that orders for the beer and stein combo begin to be shipped at the end of October, several months before the arrival of the Cybertruck itself, the first models of which are expected at the end of 2023 (no mass production before 2024).

The implications of Tesla’s diversification: a winning strategy for Elon Musk

Tesla’s diversification into alcohol and related products is a strategic demonstration of how the brand is using its image and flagship products to expand into new areas. By exploiting his logo, his own notoriety and the design of the Cybertruck, Elon Musk is transforming his automobile company into a lifestyle brand.

This also has implications for how Tesla interacts with its customers. By offering products like CyberBeer, Tesla is creating new opportunities to reach its customers outside of the purely automotive context. By strengthening its connection with the general public, Tesla builds loyalty, that’s smart.
