The Tesla Gigafactory in Grünheide near Berlin seems to be getting ready for Delivery Day next Tuesday, when the first 30 Model Y Performance from German production are to be handed over to their customers. In the run-up to the factory, another giant graffiti might be seen, and at the north-east end of the main building, an observer filmed at least a hundred Model Ys lined up (see photo). They look like they’re just waiting to be taken to customers – but so far, despite approval for the factory, Tesla hasn’t been allowed to produce a Model Y there that will also be sold.
Tesla documents are checked
For Tuesday, March 22, Tesla has alongside workers and senior politicians 30 customers to hand over their Model Y performance from Grünheide invited. CEO Elon Musk is also expected when the German factory officially starts deliveries almost two and a half years following its announcement. She has already produced around 2000 Model Y on a test basis before the final approval from the state of Brandenburg came at the beginning of March.
Since it was granted, there are no longer any restrictions regarding outstanding work. However, the factory is not yet in “regular operation”, as a spokesman for the Brandenburg Ministry of the Environment explained to teslamag.de. On March 4, Tesla announced the planned commissioning two weeks later and have already submitted documents to prove that the conditions in the approval notice have been met. These would be checked by the State Environment Agency, at the same time there would be acceptance tests on site. According to the spokesman, this proof of the fulfillment of all relevant requirements had not yet been completed by Thursday followingnoon.

At the same time, according to him, this means that the Model Y currently being produced in Grünheide may not be sold – not even following official commissioning has taken place: “Vehicles that can be sold may only be produced following the start of regular operation of the plant ‘ the spokesman explained. The many Tesla Model Y in black with a few white copies in between, which @Gf4Tesla photographed neatly lined up on the Gigafactory site on Tuesday, can not yet be intended for customers.
Model Y fresh off the assembly line for customers
But they might also serve as a backdrop for Delivery Day, just like the new graffiti. The acceptance must have taken place by the morning of this day at the latest, otherwise the invited customers would probably not be able to take their Model Y with them. The information from the ministry suggests that March 18 is scheduled for the completion of the necessary proof, i.e. today Friday – two weeks following the mentioned notification by Tesla at the beginning of the month. If necessary, shortly before the planned handover on March 22 around noon would still be enough. Because according to information provided by a customer to teslamag.de, it is intended that the 30 customers can watch their personal Model Y roll off the assembly line.
