The cruising range of an electric vehicle is a major factor to consider when purchasing one, but there has been controversy over whether the cruising range claimed by the manufacturer is accurate. Recently, Tesla in North America has shortened the range of some versions of Model S, X and Y.

According to sources, the range of several models has been reduced to varying degrees. For example, the Model Y Long Range has been reduced from 330 miles to 310 miles, the Model X Plaid has been reduced from 333 miles to 326 miles, and so on. Tesla stated that the revised range is not due to a change in car equipment, but due to changes in the U.S. EPA testing requirements, resulting in an increase in power consumption. In addition, Tesla’s “improvements in comfort and functionality have led to an increase in power consumption.” The overall cruising distance is shortened.

So far, there has been no change in the range of Tesla electric vehicles outside North America. However, there have been criticisms in the United States that Tesla exaggerated the range of its electric vehicles. Even the U.S. Department of Justice launched an investigation in October last year into whether Tesla had deliberately exaggerated its performance figures.
