Tesla exposes Cybertruck truck and finish disappoints experts

A Tesla, a North American electric vehicle manufacturer, held this Friday (10) an event with specialized press in the United States to present the Cybertruck to the public. The company’s truck debuts in November and, according to information, it had more than 2 million reservations from customers interested in this robust car.

Despite the high interest from the brand’s fans, the project failed to impress experts who criticized the low construction quality of both the body and the interior finish – the latter being widely criticized by Tesla sedan owners. The model seen, however, is a prototype in an advanced stage of development.

Daniel Golson, one of the journalists who participated in the presentation, reveals that the Cybertruck prototype has a rough finish, with a large space between the body panels, making it possible to even place your fingers between the gaps in this area of the finish. He also criticized the lack of rubber seals on the doors.

Golson also claims that the vehicle’s fenders are absurdly misaligned, a possible design (or construction) flaw that becomes more evident when the headlights are on. At the time, Tesla’s design chief, Franz von Holzhausen, drove the truck to demonstrate the model’s efficiency to the public, but this displeased experts.

“It was absolutely disconcerting to me to see Tesla’s chief designer parading around a vehicle in such condition just weeks before launch, and even more disconcerting that he [Holzhausen] parked it at a public event for car enthusiasts,” the journalist told Jalopnik.

Golson believes that the prototype presented should be at a more advanced stage of development, as the product announcement is scheduled to take place in this 4th quarter. The proximity of the launch suggests that the automaker may not have time to correct the imperfections highlighted by the press and that the defects may reach the final version.

It is not uncommon for the first generations of vehicles to have chronic flaws related to finishing and construction, but in the case of Tesla this is, apparently, recurrent.
