Among the teams to watch closely three weeks out from the NBA Trade Deadline are the Hornets. The Charlotte franchise might actually let go of several of its major players, including Terry Rozier. Who wants a 21-point-per-game running back?
In the category of sellers ahead of the February 9 deadline, we have Les Frelons. With a poor record of 11 wins for 34 losses at mid-season, Charlotte is not going anywhere this year and is probably already thinking regarding the next Draft where a certain Victor Wembanyama will show up. This situation can clearly lead to tankingso it’s not very surprising to hear executive players (well, “executives”, that’s a dirty word, huh) in the transfer rumours.
Terry Rozier, Mason Plumlee, Jalen McDaniels, Kelly Oubre Jr., Gordon Hayward, these are all names that are coming up in discussions at the moment. Let’s take a closer look at the first one, because it is perhaps he who has the most interesting file.
With 20.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists average this year, Scary Terry is having his most productive campaign on offense since the start of his career. In 2023, his figures rise squarely to 24.4 points and 5 assists on average at 49% shooting success including 37% at 3-points and 81% at free throws. Very serious stats that might push some franchises to call the Hornets by the deadline. And that’s good because selon Shams Charaniageneral manager Mitch Kupchak is ready to answer the phone to discuss the Rozier case.

If the Hornets want to smash everything around LaMelo Ball, now is probably the time. Especially regarding Terry Rozier given his current performance. The guy’s offensive production may interest franchises looking for scoring, and it’s a great opportunity for Charlotte to strengthen her draft capital for a reconstruction that seems inevitable.
What can Hornets get for Scary Terry? There is no doubt a way to recover an interesting first round choice in an exchange, in addition to the player (or players) allowing to balance the wages (ideally guys soon at the end of the contract). As a reminder, Rozier has an annual salary of up to $21 million, and is under contract until 2025-26 with a partially guaranteed final year.
So which franchise – hello Lakers – is going to give Mitch Kupchak a call in the next three weeks?
