Barely 24 hours following terrorists promised in a video to abduct President Muhammadu Buhari, insurgents attacked the elite troops of the Nigerian Army Guards Brigade.
Three soldiers were injured as the elite guard repelled the ambush of terrorists in Abuja as they patrolled around the Bwari-Kubwa road.
Intelligence sources said: “Troops on routine patrol along Kubwa – Bwari were ambushed by suspected terrorists. Three soldiers were injured in the attack. The soldiers were evacuated for medical treatment.
Guard spokesman Captain Godfrey Anebi Abakpa, who confirmed the attack, noted that the ambush occurred in the general area of Bwari, which shows that the terrorists were in fact there and were perhaps preparing to carry out their plans to attack the Nigerian law school in Bwari, as previously reported.
He added that the injured soldiers were immediately evacuated to the military hospital for immediate medical treatment.
“Yes, they (the troops) were attacked and the attack was successfully repelled. We have had a few combat casualties who have been taken to hospital and are receiving treatment.
“At present, our troops are still combing through the general area to get rid of the criminals who threaten the general area. Residents are advised to go regarding their lawful business and continue to cooperate with us by giving us timely information to help us win the fight once morest criminals.”
The attack comes barely 24 hours following terrorists in a video on Sunday named President Muhammad Bihari, Malam Nasir Rufai and other government officials as their next targets.
Recall that the Nigerian Army Guards Brigade provides security for the presidential villa, the country’s federal capital, Abuja and neighboring communities.
