Terrorist plans: National Security Council meets on Tuesday

The SPÖ had called for the committee to convene – all that is required is a request from one parliamentary group. The Federal Chancellor is formally responsible for convening the meeting.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Federal Chancellery, the Federal Chancellery announced. Security authorities will report to members on the successful thwarting of the planned attack. “This time, our security forces were able to prevent a tragedy. The threat was serious, the attack plans concrete. The consequences of an attack would have been unimaginable,” said Nehammer in a statement. The Chancellor thanked the emergency services and praised “the excellent cooperation between the national and foreign security authorities.”

Information about threat situation required

In addition to Nehammer, the Security Council includes Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) and Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner, Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (all ÖVP) and representatives of the parliamentary parties represented in the main committee. The SPÖ justified the call for the National Security Council to be convened by saying that the public was being left in the dark as to whether there was still an actual threat. Neos and FPÖ had also called for clarification about the threat situation.
