Ternopil was covered with thick black smoke! On the night of August 20, the enemy attacked the city with drones. During the air raid alarm, loud explosions were heard in the regional center. A fire broke out in one of the city’s districts, and later the authorities even asked people not to leave their homes. What exactly did the occupiers strike in Ternopil and what impact will this have on the local population?

Night attack on Ternopil

Another restless night for Ukrainians. The occupiers once again struck peaceful cities with drones. This time, Ternopil was in their sights. The air raid siren continued in the Ternopil region for more than an hour and a half. And at about 3:00 a.m., loud explosions were heard in the regional center.

The smell of burning

Subsequently, information appeared that the city smelled something burning after the air raid alarm had been lifted. Ternopil Mayor Serhiy Nadal called on Ukrainians living in the Druzhba, Kutkivtsi, Pronyatyn, Novy Svit, and Bila neighborhoods to close their windows tightly:

“I urge you not to publish photos, videos, or spread false information on social networks.”

In turn, the press service of the Ternopil Regional Military Administration reported that a fire broke out in one of the city’s districts:

“About the situation that occurred at night during the air raid alarm. The State Emergency Service and the police are working at the site of the fire.”

Staying outside – limit

Then additional information from the OVA appeared. The press service added that explosions occurred in the regional center during the night air raid alarm, and then a strong fire broke out. Local residents were advised to limit their time outdoors. It was noted that in the Ternopil district, specialists were measuring air quality:

“When planning your day, do not leave the house unless necessary, limit children’s time outside as much as possible, close windows indoors, and thoroughly wash food brought from the yard,” the statement says.

The enemy hit an industrial facility

And by the morning, around 9:00, it became known that the enemy had struck an industrial facility in Ternopil with drones. The hit occurred in one of the tanks where fuel and lubricants were stored. Then the city was covered with a layer of thick black smoke. The corresponding footage was published by local Telegram channels.

This information was confirmed at a briefing by the deputy head of the Ternopil military administration, Viktor Ustenko.

Are there any casualties?

According to Ustenko, there were no casualties. After the enemy strike, emergency services were called to the “landing” site.

The fire has been localized

According to Viktor Masley, head of the State Emergency Service Department in Ternopil Oblast, rescuers received a message about the fire at around 3:00 a.m. By morning, it was localized, but they are still trying to extinguish it.

Experts are checking water and air

Specialists are taking samples of water and air for analysis to check for excess levels of harmful substances. According to the chief state sanitary doctor of the Ternopil region Oksana Chaichuk, no critical situation is observed.

Deputy Head of the Ternopil OVA Viktor Ustenko explained why these locations were chosen to test water and air.

However, local residents were urged to refrain from staying outside for long periods of time on August 20.

What is known about the enemy attack on Ukraine?

In general, it is known that the Russian army struck Ukraine with various missiles and drones last night. On the night of August 20, the enemy attacked Ukraine with several types of missiles, as well as 26 Shahed attack drones. Air defense forces shot down 28 air targets. This was reported by the Air Force Commander, Lieutenant General Nikolai Oleshchuk:

“28 air targets were shot down: one Iskander-K cruise missile, two Kh-59 guided air missiles and 25 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs within the Kyiv, Dnepropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Kirovohrad, Sumy and Chernihiv regions.”

In particular, Kyiv was also in the enemy’s sights. Russian troops attacked the Kyiv region with attack drones and missiles. Air targets were shot down by air defense forces. However, there was a fall of UAV and missile debris. This was reported by the head of the Kyiv regional military administration Ruslan Kravchenko:

“There were no hits on residential or critical infrastructure facilities. There were no casualties. Task forces continue to record the consequences of the enemy attack.”

Consequences of the attack on Kiev region

According to Kravchenko, as a result of falling debris from downed targets, damage was recorded to four private homes and an outbuilding in one of the region’s populated areas. Windows and doors were knocked out, walls were damaged, and facades were cut up. The grass flooring also caught fire.
