Tensions persist on the second day of the trial concerning the death of Dion Jashanica in Molenbeek
The second day of the trial of Abdellah Ben Abdeslam and Mohamed Benamar continued on Wednesday in a tumultuous atmosphere. The two men must answer for the death of Dion Jashanica, shot and killed on April 18, 2022 in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean.

The tensions noted at the opening of the trial for Dion’s assassination on Tuesday have not eased and the president of the Brussels Assize Court (relocated to Nivelles) had to intervene several times in the morning to try to preserve the serenity of the debates.

The day was devoted to hearing the investigators and the investigating judge. The first immediately warned the court that certain photos, showing the victim’s body, might be painful to view. The president asked the victim’s two younger sisters to leave the room, as a precaution, while Dion Janashica’s parents chose to stay. At the first photo showing his son’s corpse, the father slammed his hand violently on his bench. President Sophie Leclercq, who had already called him to order several times the day before, then asked him not to appear once more, under penalty of being expelled from the room.
In the room of lost steps
A little later, despite a large police force deployed in and outside the courtroom, noises testifying to an incident in the room of the lost steps were heard even in the courtroom. Some of the relatives of the accused then got up to leave. The president had to intervene to prohibit them from leaving the room. Before accepting a new break, the president insisted to the public on the need to preserve the tranquility of the debates. She then clarified that those who caused problems would no longer be able to attend the trial. The break took place peacefully.
At the end of the morning, the defense lawyers were able to ask questions of the investigators. Their interventions were, however, punctuated by comments from the room, which they complained regarding.
