In Grace-Hollogne, the Farnell company will close its doors on December 31. Management launched a Renault procedure last May. In total, 189 jobs are threatened.
Between unions and management, negotiations linked to the closure are tense. While phase 2 of the Renault procedure was launched this Tuesday, anger is growing among workers. Workers who feel betrayed by management. “I’m upset regarding how management behaves in negotiations. From the start, they do everything by force, they listen to nothing, don’t want to know anything. We can give them solutions that would be economical for them and profitable for us, but they have refused any dialogue from the start.” laments one of the workers.
This Thursday, there were more than sixty people demonstrating in Tongeren in front of the headquarters of Avnet, the American group of which the English company Farnell is a part. “In the works councils that took place immediately following the closure intention, there is a strong suspicion that in Tongeren they will be in a Renault law within a very short time“, says Diego Dionisio, senior CSC delegate at Farnell Grâce-Hollogne.
“If the company continues on this path, we cannot rule out the possibility that we may take harsher actions. Furthermore, we too will seek advice from a law firm.” indicate union representatives in a press release.
As a reminder, Farnell is a distribution platform for electronic components. And the company is not in trouble at all. This American multinational even saw its turnover increase by 20% last year. Closure is therefore above all an economic choice.
