Tennis. US Open. Danielle Collins made a scene again. This is how she explained it

US Open. Danielle Collins back in action. Here’s how she reacted after her loss

The first set clearly went Danielle Collins’ way, giving her five-years-younger opponent no chance, confidently crushing her 6:1. It only got worse from there. In the second set, the higher-ranked American’s game completely broke down. And while in the first set she made only eight unforced errors, she was then charged with 30. Caroline Dolehide took advantage of this and, winning 7:5, extended the match to the decisive third set. Dolehide won 6:4 and threw her older compatriot out of the US Open.

After the match, there was supposed to be a farewell ceremony for Collins, which had been prepared in case of her defeat. And when Stacey Ann Allaster, former president and CEO of the WTA from 2009 to 2015, wanted to give her flowers, the American simply left the court and went to the locker room, even though Allaster was already there beside her.

Collins was, of course, asked by journalists about the situation at the press conference.

“Yes, I still play doubles and I asked not to be given any gifts on the court. I’m not someone who likes to celebrate my accomplishments. I’ve struggled with guilt around my success and that’s something I’ve had to work on. So honestly, I’m not good at having, like, me-centric moments. I just, yeah, I’d rather do something like that, maybe in private. But I feel like I’ve been given enough attention to last me a lifetime,” explained the American, who also has a doubles match ahead of her, with Caroline Garcia.

Collins doesn’t handle the attention on her well, but the last one draws her in like a magnet.
