It is the next big success for a player from UTC Steyr. Simon Traxler, a long-time Bundesliga player for Gleinker, won the doubles competition at the national outdoor tennis championships in Oberpullendorf alongside former UTC star David Pichler.
The 23-year-old and his partner from Burgenland were top seeds and had a bye in the first round. In the quarter-finals they beat Traxler’s UTC club colleague Tobias Leitner and Johannes Prammer from Enns. In the semi-finals they left the Viennese pairing of Christoph Lang and Michael Stino no chance, winning 6:4, 6:2. In the final they played themselves into a real frenzy once morest the Lower Austrians Felix and Lukas Steindl and took home the gold medals with a score of 6:1, 6:1.
For Traxler, following several state championship titles, it was the first title at national championships, which this year had a total prize of 54,000 euros.
