Finalist last year, Casper Ruud will be in the quarter-finals this year, after beating the surprising Nicolas Jarry in three sets. He could challenge Holger Rune once again.

He is not the player who is most talked about, especially since his first part of the season was not excellent (he is 12th in the Race), but Casper Ruud continues to make his way in this tournament of Roland-Garros which he loves so much, and where he played in the final last year. After dropping two sets in their first three matches of the fortnight, the Norwegian didn’t leave any on the way this time, but the three sets were close against Nicola Jarry: 7-6, 7-5, 7-5. The Chilean, world No. 35 and who notably fell Tommy Paul in the second round, sold his skin dearly, against this opponent whom he had beaten in three sets two weeks ago in Geneva. But he eventually gave in. Author of 10 aces and 63% of first serves, Casper Ruud had a lot of break points to defend (17) but he only lost his serve three times.

Decisive breaks at 5-5 for Ruud

In the first set, the Norwegian led 3-0 before seeing the Chilean wake up and come back to 3-3, but he finally pocketed the set in the tie-break: 7-3. In the second, Jarry started best and led 4-1. But Ruud equalized at 4-4 and broke the break at 5-5 to lead two sets to nil, although he had to save two balls from 6-6. Same scenario in the third set, where Jarry led 4-2, before seeing Ruud come back to 4-4 and break it at 5-5, once again. So here is the world No. 4 in the quarter-finals, where he could face Holger Rune, which would then be exactly the same poster as last year. As for Nicolas Jarry, he will get the best ranking of his career on Monday (about 29th), at 27 years old. We will find him next week on the lawn of Stuttgart to try to continue his good momentum.
